|
While the nomenclature dissociation is used in a variety of context, there is no consensus about the explanatory theory which defines the dissociation itself in a word yet.
In spite this paper reviews recent numerous theoretical models of the dissociation and historical development of the concept of that. It elucidates the nature and function of the dissociation discovered as a mental defense mechanism which is
especially
compared to the characteristics of repression and splitting mechanisms. Also, the paper examines a differential diagnosis issue which arises in working with schizophrenia presenting some dissociative manifestations commonly.
The author concludes with the clinical implications of chronic dissociative disorders and the impact of the understanding about dissociation on the practice in the modern psychiatry.
